Surgical Electrolysis

We offer permanent hair removal by electrolysis. If you are considering full or part Gender Re-assignment (male to female), or (female to male) hair removal by electrolysis is something that you will naturally want to consider.

Permanent hair removal by electrolysis is an important part of either pre or post gender re-assignment and I would like to reassure you that I can make a positive contribution to this process and all enquiries are confidential. I offer a mandatory consultation and patch test for £35.00, to discuss and arrange a course of treatment designed especially for you.

Electrolysis involves the insertion of a very thin needle (about the same diameter as a hair) into the hair follicle. As the hair follicle is a natural opening in the skin the insertion of the needle is not usually felt.

The root of each hair is cauterized by passing a current through the needle. This proven method of hair removal can be safely used for both the face and the body.

The amount of treatment needed to achieve permanent hair removal will vary from person to person.

Practically any area of the body can be treated, apart from the inside of the nose and the inner ear. Common and popular areas are the face, nipples, abdomen, bikini line, fingers and toes.

Among the services that I offer to trans-gender women are full facial hair removal and pre-surgery hair removal before Gender Re-affirmation Surgery.

If you are aiming to complete the surgical treatment you will need to have the hair fully removed from the donor site to avoid future complications. This will be discussed fully at your initial consultation and a personalised treatment plan will be designed to accommodate specific dates within your journey. Please note that I like to have completed the treatment a minimum of 6 months prior to surgery to allow for complete healing of the skin at the donor site.

There is often a little redness and swelling, resembling an insect bite, straight after electrolysis - this normally disappears after an hour or so. After a day, your skin will be clear and shouldn’t show any signs of treatment.

Sometimes the body may show tiny pinprick scabs, which drop off naturally within a week or so. On rare occasions you may see these tiny scabs on the face, usually when the treated hair was distorted or ingrown so the surrounding skin was damaged.
