Sebaceous Cyst : Treatment by Dr Marcus Thomas

Sebaceous cyst removal is an effective treatment option for both cosmetic and medical reasons. A total excision removes the entire cyst and eliminates its return.

What is a Sebaceous Cyst?

A cyst is a pouch of tissue that usually contains fluid or semi-liquid material like water or pus. Cysts may form if a gland is damaged or if its duct becomes blocked. A sebaceous cyst can form anywhere on the body but usually appears on the face, neck or torso area.

Please note that this treatment includes histology, at a cost of £115.

What does the treatment involve?

The skin will be numbed with a local anaesthetic, then a small cut in the surface of the cyst will be made. The contents of the cyst and the sac wall are removed and the cut will be closed with a small stitch. Infected or inflamed cysts may require other treatments such as steroid injections or drainage before they can be removed.

Same day removal is available - please ask.
