Consultation and Mapping for Mole-related issues

This is a consultation, which is mandatory prior to commencing any treatment plan for moles. It includes our Mole Mapping service which involves identifying any moles of concern and then a scan using a dermatoscopic imaging device. The scan results are sent securely to a ScreenCancer Dermatology Specialist for analysis and the final results should be available within 48 hours. You will then be able to book an appointment to have the mole(s) reduced if identified as benign.

The consultation will take between 30mins to 45mins. The cost is for one mole; if you require other moles to be investigated on the same day there will be an extra charge of £25 per mole.

If the results show that your mole(s) or pigmented lesion(s) is/are at risk, we will contact you to discuss the next steps.

Your QuestionsAnswered

It is sensible to check your skin frequently. The more aware you are of your skin, the more likely it is that you will spot any changes.

Further checks should be made if a mole has:

  • changed size, shape or colour
  • become painful or itchy
  • become inflamed, started bleeding or is crusty
  • looks unusual and has not gone away after a few weeks.

Be aware of the ABCDE rule - see below.

It's normal for:

  • babies to be born with moles
  • new moles to appear – especially in children and teenagers
  • moles to fade or disappear as you get older
  • moles to get slightly darker during pregnancy

The ABCDE rule for moles is a simple guide to help identify signs of melanoma, a type of skin cancer.

Each letter stands for a feature to watch for:

🅰️ A is for Asymmetry

One half of the mole doesn’t match the other half. Benign (non-cancerous) moles are usually symmetrical.

🅱️ B is for Border

Edges are irregular, ragged, blurred, or notched. Healthy moles tend to have smooth, even borders.

🌈 C is for Color

Uneven colors or multiple shades (brown, black, red, white, or blue). Normal moles are usually one uniform color.

📏 D is for Diameter

Larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser). Some melanomas can be smaller, but size is still an important indicator.

🔄 E is for Evolving

Any change in size, shape, color, or elevation. Also includes new symptoms like itching, bleeding, or crusting.

⚠️ When to Book a Scan

If a mole displays any of these warning signs, it’s important to get it checked by our Mole Mapping service. Early detection of melanoma can significantly improve treatment outcomes.

Your results will be emailed to you directly from the scanning laboratory, normally within 48 hours of reception. You can opt to share those results with Beauty Lodge.

Your report will include the consultant dermatologists's opinion on what your mole or skin lesion is and advice as to what to do next.

Skin cancer diagnosis requires a biopsy and cannot be done from images alone. If the consultant thinks that your mole or skin lesion is concerning they will ask you to see your doctor or a dermatologist. This does not necessarily mean that you have a skin cancer but that further investigation is advisable.
